1000 BC - First people arrive on St. John.  They establish a village at Salt Pond Bay and they collect and prepare seafood at Lameshur.


1000 AD - The Taino culture that originated in Hispaniola arrives o St. John.


1493 - Part of Columbus's fleet sails by St. John.


1672 - Danes settle St. Thomas


1718 - Plantation Era begins on St. John


1733 - Population 208 whites and 1,037 people of African decent on 109 plantations.


1766 - St. John and St. Thomas are declared free ports by the Danish Crown.


1783 - Moravians establish a missision at Emmaus.


1792 - Danes pass law mandating the end of the African slave trade in ten years.
